Haverhill, MA - The 95 Giants 2009 Elite Team capped off a storybook season today, being crowned Champions of the Boston Hockey League after edging out fellow Lovell Hockey club, the New England Knights '09 Elites.
The Giants the regular season with a 24-6-4 record, and in large part to a late season winning streak, earned the #1 Seed heading into the playoffs. The team caught fire in late January, which took the team into a terrific showing at the Ocean State Classic where they were crowned champions of the tournament after a big win over the North Jersey Avalanche 2009 Elite Team.
Heading into the playoffs, the 09's strung together an 11-1-1 record and seemed nearly unbeatable at the most crucial point of the season. After earning a first round bye, the Giants defeated the #3 Seeded Walpole Express '09 Elites in the semi-finals by a score of 7-3, and set up a much anticipated battle with the New England Knights for the finals.
After a hard-fought, back and forth contest, the 95 Giants emerged victorious by a score of 2-1 when the dust cleared. "I am extremely proud of how each of our players were able to bare down, and commit themselves fully to the team in the final stretch of the season," said Head Coach Rob Liberatore.
Congratulations to our 95 Giants 2009 Elites on their Boston Hockey League Championship, and we look forward to the continued development and success of this group, and each of our 95 Giants teams next season!!
