The 95 Giants 09 Elite team took to Can/Am Lake Placid on the weekend of December 5-8, 2019.   It was an exciting trip, with lots of smiles, lots of snow, cold temperatures, a shootout champion, a relay win and a trip to the Gold Medal game.  Although we were hoping to come home with the Gold Medal the team left with Silver Medals, which is still an amazing feet.

On Thursday December 5th, the team arrived to a snowy Lake Placid for a busy first night at the home of the 1932 and 1980 Olympics.  The whole team and their families were able to experience the nostalgic environment of the 1980 Rink.  After the family skate, the team was able to walk back on the ice for the Opening Ceremonies complete with a torch lighting, singing of both the Canadian National Anthem and the American National Anthem.  Fresh off the excitement of the Opening Ceremonies, the boys headed over to the 1932 rink for their 1st game of the weekend.  Orlando lead off the charge scoring the 1st goal of the weekend a minute and half into the game.   It was a tough game but in the end the Giants came out on top with a 6-2 victory.   Scoring was led by Chavez with a hat trick; Orlando (2) and Daley (1).   Henault with the lone assist in the game.

Friday December 6th, the Giants were up and at it again for a 2 game set.  The day started off with a game against the Perinton Blades.  The game was not much of a matchup as the Giants pulled away early and never looked back.  In the end, they came away with a huge 16-1 Giants win.  There were 8 players who got on the board; Peters, Orlando and Daley all with Hat Tricks, Henault and Avila with (2) goal each; Iannetta, Walsh and Chavez with (1) goal each.  LaBelle was an assist machine with 4 assists, Chavez and Daley with (3) assists each and Johnson, Walsh, Barrett and Avila contributing with 1 assist each .

After a break back at the hotel where the boys were able to rest a little, play a few video games and a lot of laughs in the hallway by the parents it was time to head back to the rink for a nightcap against Milton.

Unfortunately the Milton Game did not have the same outcome as the previous two game.  It was a tough 6-1 loss with the lone goal scored by Daley.

Friday night the team and parents had some fun at the the tournament party at the Crowne Plaza.  The whole team took to the dance floor, with Daley coming away with some swag for bustin a move on the dance floor.  The night was capped off by the team standing on chairs belting out Sweet Caroline.

Saturday December 7, The 95 Giants team showed up big in the skills competition.  Max Parylak and Cooper Daley representing the team in the shooter/ goalie portion.  Parylak flashed the pads and made some SportsCenter Top 10 style saves but unfortunately came up just short of making it to the medal round while stopping 5 out of 6 shots.   Daley, the eventual winner of the shooter skills, came up big scoring 5 out of 6 and advanced to the next round and where he was crowned the Shootout Winner.  The relay team made up of Max Iannetta, Chase LaBelle, Leonardo Chavez and Ryan Avila also came up huge.  They battled with 10 other teams, fought through the turns, had clean hand offs between racers and were successful in being crowned the relay winners.  Congratulations to our skills team.  Also, thank you to the rest of the team who came to cheer on their teammates.

After riding the high of the skills competition the whole team had to pile into cars and take the 20 minute trek to the Saranac Lake Civic Center to take on the Nutley-Clifton HC.  The team battled through a tough team to advance to the Gold Medal Game.  Scoring was led by Daley 2 goals; Walsh, Barrett, Orlando and Avila all chipping in scoring 1 goal each.  Assists by LaBelle and Daley

Sunday December 8th - GOLD MEDAL GAME Vs Milton.   The Giants took the ice hoping for a different outcome from the last time they faced the team from Milton.  They fought and battled throughout the game .  Parylak was solid in net once again making some key saves to keep our team in this game.  The Giants fell short of the Gold with a final score of 6-3.  All three goals being scored by Chavez.  Assists by Avlia and Daley.

The 95 Giants 09 Elite went to Lake Placid hoping for Gold but came away with Silver instead.  More importantly friendships became stronger, laughs were had by all and amazing memories were made.
